I walk past a grape arbor in our neighborhood about three times a week. I’ve always found it fascinating and, over time, I’ve taken lots of pictures of it to see how it changes over the seasons. I’ve been sure that it has an important message for me; but it hasn’t been clear – until today!
As Fall is here, the grape plant’s leaves are turning red and the grapes are almost gone, their imprints leaving stains on the sidewalk. The grape stains gave me the impression the grape plant was making an extra effort to give me a message. It was as if the grape was saying “Brian, I’ve been talking to you for years! Maybe if I spell it out on the sidewalk it will get through to you!”
Well, being a reader, I am fond of images carrying messages. So, I threw a spread for clarity – four cards like the four seasons. I used the Tarot de Jacques Vieville 1650 (Editions SIVILIXI). I love this TdM type 1 deck with its enigmatic images and order. I mean the Tower card features a tree!
I thought, my, look at those sixes! What order and equipoise! Moving through the Lovers to the Wands, Cups and then the Ace of Coins. I got it right away! This is not the four seasons exactly; it is the life of the grape plant beginning in germination, moving through growth, bearing fruit and then becoming seed to begin the entire process over again.
The message: Embrace the cycles of life. Do you see Death here? That’s because it does not exist – only change. I have written this in front of you on the sidewalk and on my leaves and body so that you would understand.
Thank you grape! There is a similar message in the Bible. Thank you for reminding me!

Hi Brian – I just read this and really enjoyed it. My favorite saying from the Bible (and from anywhere) is “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” There are messages everywhere, if only we would take the time to see them. Thank you for this. Best regards, Ann
